Thursdaynight featured a pivotal game in Carroll County as South Carroll turned the ball over to their ace, Senior righty Brayden Stutzman (Wilson) and Liberty handed the ball to their own Senior ace in righty Anthony Zombro (Potomac State).

South Carroll would strike first in the opening frame as Senior outfielder Logan Miller hit a sharp infield single for an RBI to put the Cavaliers ahead 1-0. Later in the inning, Senior outfielder Brady Etzel (CCBC Essex) laced a two out RBI double down the left field line to push the score to 2-0. In the bottom of the first after a pair of two out walks, Senior Anthony Zombro (Potomac State) laced an RBI single to the opposite field, followed by a pair of RBI singles by Junior catcher Camden Hodges and Senior Quinn Petroski to take the lead 3-2. The score would remain until the top of the third, as Etzel came through again for the Cavaliers with an RBI infield single to tie the game at 3 a piece. In the sixth, the Cavaliers took back the lead with a clutch two out RBI single off the bat of Senior outfielder Noah Strzelczyk to make it 4-3. In the bottom of the sixth, Liberty opened the flood gates scoring six runs to take a 9-4, as Junior righty Jack Davidson slammed the door in the seventh to secure the 9-4 victory for the Liberty Lions.

Logan Miller OF / South Carroll, MD / 2022

Was impressed with the consistent hard contact produced by the center fielder at the dish all night long. Hits from a balanced, slightly crouched stance at the plate, showcasing excellent separation in the hands with the ability to get the barrel to pitches in all quadrants of the zone. The physical framed Senior showcases quick, whippy barrel action through the zone with a smooth, strong whole field line drive approach. Gap-to-gap pop is present, showcasing athleticism and speed that can impact the game on both sides of the ball. Finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.

Brayden Stutzman RHP / 3B / South Carroll, MD / 2022

Got the start on the bump for South Carroll and filled up the zone early and often for the Cavaliers. Utilizes a quick, up-tempo delivery working out of a shorter side-step into a tall balance point. Long to short arm action, pitching with intent with quick arm speed through release. The fastball is thrown with confidence, showcasing occasional cut action that ran away from righties at 82-84, topping out at 85. Early on, the slider was tight with sharp 10/4 shape at 69-72. Out of the windup, Stutzman was very effective and showed feel for his arsenal. Command became an issue out of the stretch, but showed the ability to get outs and miss barrels when he needed to without his best stuff on the night. Finished the game working five plus innings, giving up five earned runs while striking out six.

Liberty

Anthony Zombro RHP / 3B / Liberty, MD / 2022

Pitching:Got the start for Liberty on the bump, working five innings, giving up three earned runs, while striking out two. Command of the arsenal wasn’t the sharpest, but Zombro battled throughout his five innings of work. Pitches out of a side-step delivery from an over the top slot with regular effort. Gets over the front side well, working the fastball to all quadrants of the zone with feel to the arm side at 81-83. Early on, the curveball was thrown for strikes with bigger 12/6 shape at 64-65, keeping the South Carroll hitters off balance. As the game progressed, the changeup was the best secondary pitch as it was thrown with plenty of confidence and showed solid fade action into righties at 66-68. The Potomac State commit shows athleticism down the bump with consistent balance through release.

Long, lean frame w/ plenty of room to fill out. OTT slot, working the FB to all quadrants, mixing in the CB/CH in any count.

Hitting:At the dish, Zombro showcases a keen ability to hit for strength to the whole field with line drive tendencies to both gaps and alleys. Hits from a slightly crouched, balanced stance with solid hand rhythm and minimal movement in the back load. Stays behind the ball really well, utilizing a more level path to contact with solid barrel awareness to and through the zone. Finished the game 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
