Connect to built-in Wi-Fi Access Point

X AIR mixers are almost identical to analog mixers but, instead of using physical faders and knobs, they are remotely controlled with the X AIRapp. That means all you have to do is connect your tablet or computer to the mixer’s built-in Wi-Fi (Access Point). While there are other methods for connecting to X AIR mixers, we’ll get you started by covering the basics; using X AIR Edit to remote control your mixer and getting input signal to your speakers.

To connect and control your mixer, you first need to download the X AIR app for your device. After the app installs, use the instructions below to connect your device to the mixer’s built-in Wi-Fi Access Point.

  • iPad
  • Android
  • PC or Mac

Ethernet and Wi-Fi connections

Connecting to the mixer’s built-in Wi-Fi Access Point is not the only way to use X AIR Edit. The REMOTE ETHERNET port can also be used to either connect directly with a PC, Mac, or an attached external wireless router or switch. View our X AIREthernet and External Router Setup guide to control your mixer without connecting directly to the built-in Wi-Fi Access Point.

Get sound in and out

IMPORTANT: If you plan on installing it in a rack, you must remove the rubber bumpers first, or else the unit won’t fit.

Once a remote control connection is established, it’s time to get some sound. To get signal into the mixer, just connect a microphone or instrument to one of the input jacks. You’ll then need to open the X AIR Edit app to control the channel’s level and settings (gain, 48V, level, FX sends, etc.). Don’t forget to enable 48V (aka phantom power) for condenser microphonesand active DI boxes.

Once you’ve got input signal into the mixer, it can then be sent to speakers connected to the Main or Aux outputs. All you have to do is adjust both the channel and output level faders. Keep in mind that you’ll usually want to keep the Main or Aux level fader around “0” (unity) and set your speaker (main or monitor) levels appropriately. Note that when a bus is selected from the mix view, each channel’s level fader now controls their respective Send level. Alternatively, you can control send levels within a selected channel’s SENDS tab.

Get input signal

  1. Connect a microphone or instrument to an X AIR input jack.
  2. In the X AIR app, select the input channel by tapping the bar right above the track’s SOLO button.
  3. Select the INPUT tab and increase the MIC GAIN knob until you can see levels on the input channel.
  4. Increase the channel’s level fader to turn up the volume.

Output from Main L/R

  1. Connect your speakers to the Main L/R XLR output jacks.
  2. Select the MAIN button (right) and turn up the MAIN channel’s level fader.

Output from Aux outputs

  1. Select the corresponding Bus, turn up the Bus level fader, and then turn up channel bus sends to create a mix.
